Le certificazioni linguistiche internazionali sono ormai un’elemento fondamentale per il curriculum vitae.
L’esigenza di stabilire dei criteri di valutazione della conoscenza della lingua inglese risale al 1913, anno in cui l’Università di Cambridge istituì la prima certificazione Proficiency.
In anni più recenti, l’Unione Europea ha messo a punto il CEFR o Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (Quadro comune europeo di riferimento per la conoscenza delle lingue), un sistema per valutare le abilità conseguite da chi studia una lingua europea come lingua straniera e indicare con omogeneità il livello di competenza delle diverse lingue europee. Creato dal Consiglio d’Europa tra il 1989 e il 1996, è oggi lo standard rispettato dai principali enti certificatori internazionali.
Il CEFR prevede sei diversi livelli principali di competenza:
A1 – Livello base
A2 – Livello elementare
B1 – Livello intermedio o “di soglia”
B2 – Livello intermedio superiore
C1 – Livello avanzato o “di efficienza autonoma”
C2 – Livello di padronanza della lingua in situazioni complesse
Il C2 è considerato equiparabile a un livello madrelingua, il numero di parole necessario per acquisire questo livello è di circa 8000-9000 famiglie di parole (parole con la stessa radice, tipo fiore, fioraio ecc.) nello scritto e 5000-7000 famiglie di parole nel parlato.
Un numero sempre crescente di enti e aziende richiedono una certificazione internazionale come prerequisito per l’accesso a selezioni o job interview.
Oggi esistono molti tipi diversi di certificazione per l’inglese (IELTS, CAMBRIDGE, TOEFL, LanguageCert solo per citarne alcuni) ed è importante individuare quello più adatto alle proprie esigenze di studio, lavoro o personali.
